Meet our 2025 School Captains

HRS' newest captains, Felix and Stephanie, are throwing themselves into their leadership responsibilities and they have big plans in store.
Strengthening connections between year levels, collaborating and representing every student at Haileybury Rendall School (HRS) are just a few items on the ‘to do’ list of the School’s new captains.
HRS has plenty of opportunities for young people to take the lead including taking on roles as Captain, Academic Prefect, Arts Prefect, Boarding Prefect, House Prefect, Reconciliation Prefect, Social Justice Prefect, Sports Prefect and Sustainability Prefect.
“Encouraging students to become leaders — formally or informally — is a key part of life at our School,”Andrew McGregor
“All students have the capacity and potential to lead others, and student voice and leadership are highly valued. Whether students are organising artistic and creative activities, encouraging academic excellence, providing guidance and direction, or fostering a sense of community, we support every young person who wants to lead to build their skills and confidence so they can step up in any arena,” says Andrew.
Deserving leaders
Stephanie is determined that she and fellow School Captain, Felix, will be the leaders that HRS deserves.
“Being a School Captain gives me the opportunity to bring the voice of our entire school body to the changemakers within our School,” says Stephanie.
“I’m also excited to assist other changemakers in our own student body to achieve their goals and to give back some of the support I have been so lucky to receive at HRS.”
Stephanie, who joined HRS in Year 7 and whose father attended Haileybury Melbourne, recognised the opportunities that come with leadership in 2023 when she received the Principal’s Exchange Scholarship. As a result, she attended Haileybury Melbourne for a term.
Opportunities of a lifetime
“It was one of the most outstanding opportunities of my life and I immersed myself in as many parts of the school community as possible,” says Stephanie.
“That term opened my eyes to the immense influence and responsibilities of a person in leadership because I stayed with the family of the School Captain.
“I was also embraced by the most energetic and approachable House Captain, Thevni, and between those leaders and my incredible peers in Melbourne, I returned to Darwin determined to replicate the school spirit of Haileybury Melbourne at our wonderful HRS.”
Eco-committees and examples
Stephanie has already shown initiative by founding the school’s first eco-committee which is reducing the environmental footprint of HRS. This year, she is following in the respected footsteps of 2024 School Captains, Lakshya and Isaiah.
“They led our school with confidence and integrity and have set a high standard for future leaders. Through their captaincies, I learnt how kindness and determination can lead people to success,” says Stephanie.
Sharing the Load
Felix has been part of the Haileybury Rendall School community since Year 6 and he is also taking on the Captain’s role with good advice from the previous captains.
“I knew the previous captains well and their advice was simple yet invaluable: work hard and always try your best. They reminded me that leadership is about giving 100 percent to everything, whether in academics, extracurricular activities or supporting others,” says Felix.
“I have always admired the leadership and sense of community this school fosters and this is an exciting opportunity to lead by example, build stronger connections and represent HRS in a way that makes our school proud.”
A thriving HRS
Felix believes collaboration is key to ensure HRS continues to thrive.
“We want to foster strong connections between different year levels and one way we would like to do this is through tutor group circle time, when students from various year levels come together to share their experiences and ideas. This would break down barriers,” says Felix.
“As I navigate my final year of school, I want to make meaningful memories and support my peers through the challenges of Year 12. It is a significant year and I want to ensure everyone stays motivated, balanced and connected. I also want to build a strong foundation for the years to come, ensuring the legacy we leave behind as the graduating class is one that future students can look up to.”
