Haileybury Rendall School (HRS) in Darwin has been named Boarding School of the Year.
The School received the honour at the prestigious Australian Education Awards 2022 held in Sydney on Friday 12th, August.
The nationally-recognised award comes as HRS opens a new boarding house to accommodate international and domestic students from across Australia and South-East Asia.
The modern and spacious new facility will be a home away from home for students in Years 7 to 12 and is the latest addition to HRS.
In presenting the Boarding School of the Year Award to Haileybury Rendall School Principal, Mr Andrew McGregor, the judges recognised HRS’s high-quality teaching and learning program, strong wellbeing support and unique activities program.
The School’s focus and commitment on creating a culturally safe program that respects, supports and welcomes students from different cultures also contributed to the success at the awards ceremony.
“As the only independent boarding School in the Northern Territory, Haileybury Rendall School has a vision to be a great world school and to be the school of choice for families in northern Australia and internationally,” said Mr McGregor.
“Young people from across the north of Australia can live on campus and make the most of the many educational and unique extra-curricular opportunities available every day at HRS. The arrival of International students will also bring different life experiences and perspectives that will enrich our community and help our School continue to grow.”
“Being recognised as Boarding School of The Year sends our School community a very strong and welcome signal that we are on the right track.”
“Since its inception, our Boarding School has brought together teachers, School staff, students and families who have worked together to create a special place where young people from many cultures and communities feel respected, valued, heard and safe.”
“This is an extremely exciting time in the history of Haileybury Rendall School”, he said.
The new Boarding House includes male and female accommodation and single and dual occupancy rooms. The residences are connected via common living areas where students can study or socialise with their fellow boarders. Each room has a shared en-suite bathroom and toilet, desk, air conditioning and WiFi.
A large, modern cafeteria with a broad international menu and a dining area are available and students can also enjoy HRS’s sports facilities, including a swimming pool, basketball courts and recreational ovals.
