Excitement for holidays and new leadership in the Middle School

There has been plenty of excitement from our students and staff as we approach the school holidays. I often say to people that while holidays are usually a welcome break, we should not wish our lives away and focus on the moments that matter during term. That being said, I am very much looking forward to my first Christmas in Darwin with my family, as I am sure many of our families are.

It was an absolute pleasure to recently appoint our new Middle School student leaders for 2025 in the last fortnight. There were very strong candidates for a range of roles, and I am very excited to work with a great group of students in the new year. All roles will be formally announced and students inducted in early Term 1.

The first task of our new leaders was supporting Up Day last week. We welcomed over 100 Year 7 (2025) students into the Middle School for a day, and the place was buzzing. The kids were thrilled to be a part of icebreaker games, a scavenger hunt, and classroom activities to help build connections between peers. One common theme through the feedback so far is that students loved meeting new people. We look forward to having more opportunities to develop relationships next term.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our classroom teachers, Tutor Group teachers, and Year Level Coordinators for their tireless work this year. I also wish Ms Sophie Carter (Year 7 Coordinator) all the best for her year of parental leave as she and her husband, Peter, plan to welcome their first child. I trust everyone will have a relaxing and enjoyable holiday break and wish our students a safe and fun period away from school.
