Examinations… DONE!
Middle School students have now completed their Semester 1 examinations. It was a busy time for staff, students and, I’m sure, families, but it now means students can look to focus on their new areas of study. While the examination process can be daunting, the purpose is to give our students an opportunity to practice the skills required to succeed in VCE exams in Year 11 and 12. The skills we see as most important are:
- note taking in class
- organisation
- time management
- explicit study and revision skills
- seeking and acting on feedback
- rest and leisure planning.
Students have had a chance to unpack their exams in class. They are encouraged to act on the feedback and learn to modify their approaches for next time.
While we know it takes time for our Middle School students to hone and develop these skills, by the end of Year 9 we see them move into Senior School with a much clearer understanding of what it takes to get the best out of themselves and how to leverage the support of teachers.
Whether students sit their first exam in Year 7 or Year 12, they need skills and strategies to cope with the demands placed upon them. We prefer students don’t have their first exposure at Year 12.
Congratulations to all of our students for approaching Exam Week with diligence, commitment, and a willingness to grow.
