Inaugural House AFL 9's Competition
Term 1 has been an exciting start to our 2025 Middle & Senior House Competition! This term, we've hosted the inaugural Haileybury Rendall School AFL 9's competition, which has seen an impressive number of students stepping onto the field each week, all vying for their House in the premiership cup. The competition has been a showcase of exceptional skills, fierce rivalries, and outstanding sportsmanship.
The Senior School Grand Final was a thrilling top-of-the-table clash between the big red Pumarali storm cloud and the Baru crocodiles. Pumarali took home the victory in a tightly contested game, claiming the senior school flag.
Due to weather conditions, the Middle School Grand Final was postponed until Week 10. In this highly anticipated match, the relentless Pumarali storm cloud faced off against the mighty Nganabaru buffalos in an epic showdown. Despite their best efforts, Nganabaru came out champions over Pumarali for the title!

Cushion Concerts: A showcase of our talented students
We are thrilled to share the success of our recent Cushion Concerts at HRS, where over 25 of our instrumental students had the opportunity to perform in front of a supportive, live audience. These performances have included a range of instruments, such as piano, violin, cello, and trumpet, highlighting our students' incredible dedication and hard work.
Thank you to all the students, tutors, parents, and audience members for their continued support in making these events so special. The Cushion Concerts are a unique and wonderful opportunity for our students to build confidence, develop their musical skills, and experience the joy of performing live.
We look forward to more performances in the future and can’t wait to see even more of our talented students take the stage! If you want to join next term, please see your instrumental tutor.

Drama delights
We are so pleased with all the great work students put into their Drama studies this Term 1! We would like to acknowledge the immense creativity and effort students put into their work, as seen below:
Year 8: Our Year 8 students dived into the world of the Theatre of the Absurd, investigating dramatic elements and producing and performing their own unique works. Their creativity and understanding of this avant-garde style are truly inspiring!
Year 7: Year 7 explored the expressive art of mime, Movement in Drama, and the heightened emotions of melodrama. Their performances were filled with energy and imagination.
Year 6: Year 6 students engaged with mime and discovered character, context, and sustainability through the enchanting story of The Great Kapok Tree. Their performances brought new life to an array of dramatic situations based on the animals in the book.
Year 5: Suspense and tension were the focus for Year 5, as they investigated these dramatic elements to create gripping and thrilling performances.
Year 4: Our Year 4 students researched and presented cultural dances, showcasing the rich diversity and traditions from around the world. Their presentations were both educational and entertaining.
Year 3: Using the storybook Respect by Aunty Fay Muir, Year 3 students were inspired to create characters and situations that reflect the book's themes. Their creativity shined through in their thoughtful portrayals.
Year 2: Year 2 had fun creating and presenting characters based on superfoods! Their imaginative performances highlight the importance of healthy eating in a delightful way.
Year 1: Our youngest students retold and presented characters from beloved fairy tales, bringing these classic stories to life with their charming performances.
Transition: Transition students explored characters and situations through various stimuli, including books, the weather, and space. Their explorations broadened their understanding and sparked their imaginations.
Stay tuned for more exciting updates from our Drama Department!
