As the new Director of Boarding, I have been ‘blown away’ by the courage shown by students new to boarding, as they adjust to life away from their parents and communities.
The support shown by some of the more experienced boarders has been a key-factor to helping new boarders settle in, as has the amazing support from the boarding staff. Fifteen new students completed a three-day orientation program and are adapting superbly to living and learning at Haileybury Rendall School.
We started the year with an awesome ‘Bush Tucker’ welcome meal in Week 1. Chinese New Year celebrations in Week 2, saw International boarding students, supported by our Chinese Language Teacher, Mr Shangguan and his family prepare a feast of scrumptious dumplings for all of the boarders.
Students have also been busy taking part in various weekend activities involving shopping centre and market visits; swimming at Leanyer Water Park, the Wave Pool and the newly renovated Swell water park precinct; ice skating, beach walks and trips to TIO Stadium to watch some excellent games of AFL.
Many of our boarders have also joined the activities offered by Clontarf and Stars. Students contributed valuably to the Clontarf Year 12 Camp last week, with the Stars camp coming up in Week 5.
Thanks to all of Haileybury Rendall School for the in-school support for boarding students. All together we make a great world school!
