International Boarding Students

Applying for boarding and tuition at Haileybury Rendall School

Welcome to Haileybury Rendall School’s International Boarding applications page.

Applications can be made at any time using our online form, however, we encourage you to apply as far in advance as possible.

In the first instance, international students require a visa to study in Australia, obtained from an Australian Embassy or High Commission. The process for enrolment is outlined below.

How to apply

1. Online Application
2. Application fee
3. AEAS test
4. Offer of enrolment

1. Online Application

Complete and submit the online application. Alternatively, you may apply through one of Haileybury Rendall School’s Agents.

To complete the online application, you will be required to provide:

  • A copy of the applicant’s birth certificate or passport
  • For students with English as an additional language, a submission of AEAS test results. Please note AEAS test results are valid for 12 months.
  • Evidence of satisfactory progress at school, as evidenced by the previous two semesters’ reports (translated into English)
  • A personal reference – this may be from a friend, business associate etc but not a family or extended family member.

If you are a Permanent or Temporary Resident in Australia:

  • Birth Certificate or Passport
  • Visa

2. Application fee

To submit an application, you will be required to pay a non-refundable or non-transferable $250 fee. This fee is waived for Haileybury Rendall School approved education agencies applying on the applicant’s behalf.

3. AEAS test

International applicants, for whom English is an additional language, must sit an entrance test administered by Australian Education Assessment Services (AEAS).

AEAS test results provide detail regarding the student’s proficiency in English and is one of the measures of the candidate’s suitability.

The table below is a guide to scores for entry straight into the standard curriculum as an EAL/D student.

Year Level AEAS Score Stanines (score)
Years 9-10
70 and above
7 and 6 in non-verbal general skills and Mathematics
Year 11
80 and above
7 and 6 in non-verbal general skills and Mathematics

Students must attain the required level of English before entering the standard curriculum course at Haileybury Rendall School, to ensure that the Senior Secondary Certificates on offer are accessible.

Students who do not have English as their first language and have scored between 50-70 in their AEAS test, may be required to participate in Haileybury Rendall School’s English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) in accordance with their letter of offer and subject to interview. The recommended length of time required to improve a student's English level to be competent for the desired year level will be determined by the AEAS test results.

As the student approaches the end of their English language course either at Haileybury Rendall School (or other provider), the student will be invited to complete a post English language Intensive course test, to indicate readiness for mainstream EAL/D. The student must also have demonstrated good work ethic and positive attitude to their studies.

The AEAS test may be completed in your home country and should be completed within 12 months of submitting your application.

4. Offer of enrolment

Applicants (or their appointed agent) will be advised of the outcome of their application following a review by the Deputy Principal (or delegate).

Successful applicants will receive a formal offer of enrolment, subject to the following conditions:

  • meeting the required AEAS testing benchmarks
  • if required, satisfactory completion of a Haileybury Rendall School approved English language preparation or ELICOS course (EAL students only)
  • screening interview with the International Student Coordinator and/or Head of School and/or Head of Boarding as appropriate

An offer of enrolment will then be made in writing. To accept the offer of enrolment, families must return a completed Acceptance of Offer form and pay the following non-refundable and non-transferable fees by the due date:

  • a $2000 entrance confirmation fee
  • a deposit equivalent to the annual international tuition fee which is refundable with conditions.

Once confirmation fees and documentation are received, the School will issue a Confirmation of Enrolment and Confirmation of Place in Boarding. These documents are required to obtain a student visa. If payment is not received by the due date, the offer may be withdrawn.
